"Roda el mon i torna al Born"( go around the world and return to the Born) says the Catalan medieval phrase. The Born consists of Sant Pere, Santa Caterina and Ribera neighborhoods, which today, still maintain their Medieval structure and face the Mediterranean sea.
Straight, bottlenecked, busy streets still have the same activity as in the old days: textile trade which has now been transformed into a shopping strip of niche design boutiques from around the world together with the big names in avant-garde fashion.
It is without a doubt, the hottest shopping/eating/hanging-out district in the city.
The artists and other trendsetters who have turned this neighbourhood into a bastion of hip have also added a cutting edge to its shopping scene in recent years. You'll find a growing -- and increasingly upscale -- crop of alterna-shops , specializing in up-to-the-minute fashions and edgy club clothes, plus funky retro furnishings, Japanese toys, and other offbeat items.
Planet Born walk, starts at the Arch of Triumph, where Barcelona welcomes the nations, to continue to St.Pere de les Puel.les. We´ll wander the streets up to the Palau de la Música, by the genius architect Lluis Domenech i Muntaner, to end up at Santa Catarina square, just re-designed into a multicoloured, wavy roof local market. After a short break, we´ll head into Born, to discover gothic mansions, the beautiful cathedral of the sea and the cute, chic, not cheap boutiques to be found in the hidden corners of the most stylish streets of Barcelona.
WALKS: Wednesday and Friday de 18:00 a 20:00h. Precio: 20€ per person (VAT included). Meeting Point: Cristobal Colon Monument.
